Big Ten Neurosurgery: By the Numbers

17 neurosurgery programs within the Big Ten network provide the following advantages:

Clinical

  • More than 55,000 Procedures, of which over 42,000 were surgeries
  • More than 480,000 Outpatient Visits
  • 300 adult neurosurgeons and 45 pediatric neurosurgeons
  • The Big Ten serves almost 1/3 of the nation’s population with a tenth of the number of neurosurgeons listed in the nation. (AANS)

Research

  • 350 Active Clinical Trials
  • All sites have Biobanking capabilities and Investigative Pharmacies
  • All sites have established Reliance Agreements with a single commercial IRB
  • 114 Clinical Research staffing (average 7 per site), 180 Scientists (73 Basic Scientists and 107 Translational Scientists)
